Training for the runDisney Princess Half Marathon

IMG_0126 Training for my first half marathon has officially begun! I'd always seen pictures on social media of people doing the runDisney Princess Half Marathon and I thought it looked like a lot of fun. Plus, let's face it-- I love Disney. This year I decided that instead of letting the race in February come and go again, I'd sign up. I set a reminder in my phone almost a year ago. The day finally came and I waited on my computer for the race registration to open, debating if I was really going to spend the money and commit to doing this. The site was so busy that I had to try several times before it would even load. Eventually, the site did load and I went through with it. I actually registered for a half marathon. Wait, what?! Still can't believe I did that. What was I thinking? So, here I am.

I'm no runner by any means, so this is definitely out of my comfort zone. While I enjoy running, I've never been particularly good at it, unless it's running to the sales racks on Black Friday. Now that, I have down! I need that toaster for $5 dollars and a slew of dvds for a $1 that I'll never even take the plastic wrap off of. That's different though; I have to train for this. 13.1 miles is no easy feat and I certainly wouldn't run that to get to $1 dvds.

Thankfully, runDisney has a training program (different programs for all different levels). Training for beginning runners is 22-weeks long and started on Tuesday. Here is a link to the program. Good news is-- my friend Katy (who's done other runDisney races) signed up for the run as well and is training with me. It always helps to have a buddy/someone to kick my butt into gear. Keep in mind that you don't have to be doing the Disney Princess Half to use the running guide! So, feel free to check it out if you're just interested in starting to run in general. Good luck!

Anyone else training for a run or attending the runDisney Princess Half?

I'll be posting my current running playlist soon too, because without music I wouldn't even make it a mile!
